Propane Tank Refill – An Overview in Mountain Home Arkansas 72654

Propane is known as the most efficient, best and most cost effective fuels you can use for your home or office. But, eventually the tank runs out and you must make the decision as to whether to exchange the tank for a new one or just have the current tank refilled. Before you make a decision, consider the following things:

Pros and Cons of Refill

Pros:

The best advantage of refilling a current propane tank is cost because it is much more cost effective to take your tank either to a propane dealer or to a much less expensive U-Haul location for refill. While you are waiting for your tank to be refilled, the employees will check the tank to ensure it is up to date and will not need re-certification, and they will make sure the tank has no leaks or damage.

Cons:

The only con to taking you tank to be refilled is the hassle and time factor. It is getting harder to find places that offer propane refills, and when you do find a place, they have limited office hours plus you have to wait on someone to assist you. Other than a propane dealer, there are some small hardware stores and U-Haul places that offer refills.

Exchange

Pros:

The main reason many people choose this option is because it is very convenient to just exchange an old tank for a new filled one. There are lots of places that offer this service such as grocery stores, hardware stores, convenience stores and home improvement places. It is very simple to just grab a new tank, place your old tank with the rest, pay the bill and go in just a matter of minutes. Another advantage is that you will be sure the tank is new, does not need service because these tanks are serviced and inspected by a propane dealer before being sent back to the exchange location.

Cons:

The main thing to keep in mind about exchanging your tank is the out of pocket cost.

Another thing you have to be sure to do is check to make sure the valve on the new tank is compatible with the valve you will be hooking it up to at home. If they are not compatible, this may result in limitations and possible leaks. Also, check the valve on the tank before you take it for an exchange as there may also be limits as to where you can exchange tanks with certain valves. Another thing to keep in mind is when you get down to the last few pounds in the tank and decide to exchange it for a new one because you know there will not be enough to complete a task, you will be giving away already purchased propane because those last couple of pounds, you already paid for. In addition, some propane dealers in Mountain Home AR 72654 underfill these tanks because according to industry standard, they only have to guarantee 15 pounds in a 20 pound propane tank.

In essence, this means in a 20 pound tank, you will only get about 15 pounds and if you exchange a tank that still has a couple of pounds left you are paying for a 20 pound tank and only using 13 pounds. Also, even though exchanges are suppose to be quicker than getting a tank refilled, it also depends on how long you have to wait as there may be a lot of people in the checkout line. You may also have to wait for someone to unlock the cage so you can make the exchange and get a new tank. There are both good and bad things about both options and it will of course be up to the individual as to what is most important, their money or their time. The bottom line is still the fact that propane is the most efficient, least expensive and best way to cook, heat and other needs.
